What is a robot?

A robot is a virtual or mechcanical artificial agent. In practice, it is usually an electro-mechanical machine which is guided by computer or electronic programming, and is thus able to do tasks on its own. Another common characteristic is that by its appearance or movements, a robot often conveys a sense that it has intent of its own

History of Japanese Robotics

When people think of Japanese robots, the first thing that comes to mind is a future based walking talking servant robot, but not all of Japan's robots are like that. Robotics in Japan have been around since the 18th century. The Japanese craftsman Hisashige Tanaka (1799–1881), known as "Japan's Edison" or "Karakuri Giemon", created an array of extremely complex mechanical toys, some of which served tea, fired arrows drawn from a quiver, and even painted a Japanese kanji character. Gakutensoku Japanese for learning from the laws of nature was the first real robot was made in Osaka in 1929 by Makoto Nishimura. This robot could change its facial expression and move its head and hands via an air pressure mechanism.
